Once again Dan and I worked hard today.

I started the day with a walk around Murwillumbah  which is a nice middle size town with the Tweed River running through it. Then after the usual routine left the Showgrounds and the first stop was the Lions Lookout at the end of the usual very steep road, but it was worth it for a great view.

Then I made tracks for Byron Bay and the road was scenic until it finally joined the motorway. If I had to rate the roads here, with the exception of the motorways, I would be struggling to rate a five. They are rough with lots of lumpy repairs and have actual holes in the road like we used to get in Beaufort Street fifty or sixty years ago. Anyway I got to  Byron Bay and I can now say that I have seen it, about the most commercialised place that I have ever seen. Example they have a lighthouse at the end of another very steep, very narrow road in poor condition and they charge for parking at the two small bays on the way up and they charge to park at the lighthouse and to go and walk around it. I did not stop long enough to find out if the fee included a look inside, I was disgusted. Every where that I went they were charging for parking and it seemed that this included beach access.

Then I left BB and now the road became very scenic with lovely high views over green hilly fields to the ocean. The road, which was fairly busy, was not any better than my earlier comments.

Then I took a turning for Minyon Waterfalls which was my next target and it went on and on and the quality got worse and worse. It was so bad that I thought it would be one of those out of the way places that nobody goes to and therefore they do not look after the road. Wrong, as I got closer I met some oncoming traffic and when I got there the parking area held about a dozen vehicles. It was another very spectacular sight even though there was very little water going over the falls.

Then on to a place called The Channon where I am camped tonight with about ten other campers. A couple of the campers are in tents and they may have a difficult night as a large amount of rain is forecast.
