Tonight I am in a caravan park in Morgan. This town was a major port during the riverboat days on the Murray and judging by the photos it was very busy and crowded with boats. The are restoring one of the old paddle steamers which, by the look of it, is huge job. There is also an old wharf which is almost falling down, it is in fact fenced off from the public.

Back to the day. I have managed to drive pretty close to the river nearly all day and that has resulted in innumerable photo opportunities. So the van has stop started all day. Like any river it is rather beautiful and in some places is bounded, on one side only, by huge spectacular cliffs. There are lots and lots of houses right on the river bank spread along the river. There are of course lots of stretches without house but there are still lots of them. One group that I looked down upon from the high side were spread over a few kilometres, and all had floating jetties, but I could not see any boats.

This river is not very wide, it is obviously it’s length that makes it famous. It also appears to run upside down, I thought that this might be just near the mouth of the river, but so far it has not changed and the colour is a sort of muddy green. The towns are all small but seem to have either a ferry or a bridge. I drove over the bridge at Blanchtown which, like the Murray bridge at Murray Bridge, was rather nice, sort of unusual nice. There is an old unused bridge next to it and I was able to get some good photos.

Then I moved on to here, Morgan, had a good look at at the paddle steamer and wharf after crossing the river on the ferry. Then back on the ferry and on to Cadel where I intended to spend the night in the rv park. This park was dirt cheap at just $15 per night for power and water. However it was also below basic and I decided to move on to a place called Hogwash Bend. This turned out to be hogwash and really not somewhere that I wanted to stay, so I drove back to Morgan, just 20km, and here I am. I do need to improve my planning regarding where to stop but I cannot always get reviews to help me out, so I need to think it through.
