Okay here we go again, this is last nights post that did not happen, but is happening now.
Yesterday started with a morning walk in Coolgardie. This is a small but interesting town with a number of very nice buildings and houses that look like the tin cottages of yesteryear. Include is the Caps school, which is the Christian Aboriginal Parent Directed School. It has a relatively modern and reasonably sized campas complete with all the trappings of a modern private school here in this small town. There is also nun’s quarters a very old two story building in fairly poor, but not completely run down condition, from memory the is also a large crypt for nuns at the cemetery, so in its heyday this was obviously a motor outpost for the Catholic Church. I should add that there is also a large and impressive Catholic Church here. There are also a number of equally impressive buildings on the Main Street reflecting the gold rush era and accompanied by an outdoor museum in average condition. You get the impression that the town could use a bit of a tub up seeing that it is part of the gateway to WA.
One thing that had me intrigued here was the large number house with solar panels on the roof, not unexpected in a sunny place like this. The unexpected part was the number of broken panels on many of the houses. Combined with the fact that there were also lots of houses with tarpaulins on the roof makes me think that they have had a hail storm or similar up here in the goldfields.
Then I continued after trying to get fuel, both servos here had high flow pumps, the first did not turn on for me and the second had a minimum of 50 litres! So on to Norseman where I watered up, even though the tank appeared to overflow it is only 3/4 full so I did something wrong, emptied the toilet and filled the fuel tank.
So on to my planned camp. About 5km before I stopped for lunch at another camp spot, decided to move on then got to my planned stopping place. Disaster, as soon as I got there I remembered that Elaine and I stopped here last trip and then as now there was no flat stopping place for our van. So on the a station stop caravan park just another 10km down the road. But my fridge had stopped charging while driving so I needed 240v, so on again. This time 80km to Balladonia where i have spent the night but have not been able to solve the fridge issue, we will just have to be careful.
